This is an entry to =Kxhara's contest: A Fat Female Superhero.
I really relate to this contest (being overweight myself) and how women protagonists in comic books can't be even a little chubby due to "company regulations" or something loony like that. You know the type of women they want; size DDD, waist skinny enough to hint that she has no internal organs or muscles, skinny this, skinny that. Skinny means nothing health-wise. Professional weightlifters can be over 300 pounds and not all pure muscle. Fat exists and it's not always bad. You can be healthy as a horse and still weigh more than what is considered to be a healthy weight.
I could rant about this all day but at the end of it all, this is my entry. The point of the contest was to create a piece of art featuring a fat female superhero. Be it slightly chubby, morbidly obese, or just a realistic looking woman. Not stick thin and big breasted. Her name is Bluebird. She can fly and can summon lightning but mainly sticks to hand-to-hand combat. Comics have never been a big interest of mine but I simply had to take part in this contest. Thanks, Kxhara
If you do want to see use of a comic that uses an overweight protagonist, try checking out "Strangers in Paradise". It's a romance (as opposed to an Action/adventure) and it started in the 80's and finished recently. The character "Francine" is always struggling with weight... but that's definitely not the focus of the story. It's a really wonderful, beefy graphic novel, if you can overlook some of the ret-conning.
Epic! I love the design, and this contest is totally something that someone can relate to. Not everyone is a size 00 with an F bra. THAT is unhealthy. In my opinion, she's beautiful. C:
The scars/wounds are a good touch too!
...Gah, it's hard to pick one from Round 1 of voting! D:
